JULIA ANGELARD WITH A WEEKEND FULL OF LEARNING IN VALENCIA
- The past round of Champions of the Future Academy was bittersweet for Julia Angelard.
- The teenage Pole was able to show her bravery and solid pace on the track, but it was not enough to achieve satisfactory results.
- The JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing competitor now has a week-long Easter break and then she will go to the Franciacorta track for the third round of the ROK Cup Italia.
After a solid round on Italian soil, Julia Angelard was full of optimism and energy to extend her streak of positive rounds. She also gave an example of her capabilities during Saturday’s qualifying session, clocking a time of 56.2360, giving her fourth place and the highest position among the competitors. Unfortunately, an innocent mistake on the part of the mechanic before the start of the qualifying session led to the deletion of the time and disqualification of the Minardi Management student, although the violation of the regulations did not affect the go-kart’s performance or the competitor’s pace.
Eliminating losses
For obvious reasons, Julia Angelard, who started last in both Saturday’s heats, had to fight her way through a group of 36 OK-N Junior category competitors. As a result, in the first qualifying race she advanced by 10 places, taking 26th place, while in the second, after advancing by 8 places, she took 28th place. The combined results placed the 13-year-old Pole in 29th place at the start of Saturday’s final race. We didn’t have to wait long for the JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing competitor to show off her abilities – taking advantage of her rivals’ mistakes and opportunities to overtake, Julia jumped 12 places to finally take 17th place.
Sunday’s qualifying session did not bring as great results as Saturday’s. Julia qualified in 24th place, which allowed her, unlike on Saturday, to start the heat races in the middle of the pack, not at the back. As a result, a protégé of Minardi Management finished both heats in 16th and 14th place, to start the final from a high, 12th position. However, confusion on the track and an unfortunate driving go-kart onto the grass deprived Julia of several positions, which were difficult to make up for later in the race. As a result, the 13-year-old Pole finished Sunday’s final only in 19th place, not being fully satisfied with the course of the racing weekend.
Hoping for a solid comeback
“The weekend in Valencia, despite the rain that greeted us, started really positively. It’s a pity that these positives couldn’t be maintained for longer. I’m glad that I could prove myself both in the fight at the back of the pack and in the middle – it’s a pity that the top positions were out of my reach, but I know that I have the pace that will allow me to fight for them in the next rounds. Now I’m looking forward to an Easter pit-stop, and then a return to the Franciacorta track, which I can’t wait for,” admits the competitor of JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing.
